IRB

The IRB provides wet-gap crossing capability for today’s highly mobile combat forces. It is designed to carry heavy combat vehicles and trucks as a floating bridge or multi-bay ferry.

Bridge Concept

Trailblazer

Currently, more than 16 kilometers of IRB are in service around the globe.

Versatility
One of a kind Floating Bridge

The IRB has proven its superior performance and reliability under various climate conditions and missions including combat operations.

It is transportable on trucks and railway cars, and by fixed or rotary wing aircraft. Operable in water currents of up to 3 m/s, its improved ramp bay reaches bank heights of up to 2 meters.

Interoperability
Three Systems – One Standard

The IRB is fully interoperable with the older Standard Ribbon Bridge (SRB) and Floating Support Bridge (FSB) still widely used with NATO partners.

Moreover, through GDELS' coupling adapter, the IRB can be easily and safely combined with the M3 amphibious bridge and ferry system– maximizing operational flexibility.

Load Capacity
Single or Two-Lane Traffic

Deployed as a bridge of any length, the all-aluminum IRB can carry every vehicle up to main battle tanks and loaded heavy equipment transporters in single-lane traffic. In simultaneous two-lane traffic, it carries up to MLC 20 (tracked) and MLC 14 (wheeled).

Bridge Erection Boat
High-Performer

The Bridge Erection Boat (BEB) from Birdon is provides the user with a high performance multi-purpose boat optimized for shallow water operations and high particulate matter environments. The BEB is an aluminum-hulled boat with two diesel engines that can optionally be outfitted for JP-8 fuel. The BEB provides propulsion, thrust, and stabilization to support tactical bridging and rafting operations of the IRB. All functions of the BEB are performed by no more than a two-person crew.
